The Concept of Outreach has morphed a lot since it was discussed back in 2023 and although its aim remains the same, it is now more direct and targeted. A key factor, taken into account at its inception, was that it be less bureaucratic, straightforward and fits comfortably into all the other initiatives.
The Outreach initiative focuses on maintaining meaningful connections and providing support to various groups within the Masonic community who may otherwise feel disengaged.
The aim is to keep in contact with all of those who depart the Scheme, but who are not yet joining another Lodge This will be achieved by a dedicated Group of an “age related team”, working with the Almoners of the Scheme Lodges. The Team will keep in contact with all of those who depart the scheme, but have not yet chosen a destination Lodge, via an Almoner contact 3 times a year, using “The “Almoner keeping in touch Theme” Giving the support and care to which they are entitled.

Working with the Retention Team’s Contact Office, the Outreach Team supports Masons who have left their Lodges and cannot be recovered. When no short-term solution is found, the Contact Officer passes details to Outreach, which provides Almoner support via three annual calls. The team also collaborates with the Lodge Closures Team to proactively address upcoming closures. (Applies to non-university scheme Masons)

Again, their details are provided to the Outreach Team, and they are then taken, if they so wish, into Florence Nightingale Lodge as Honorary members so that they can have ongoing Almoner Cover. This is already in place and working well.

This scheme has been in being for about 10 years. Currently there are around 10 Widows, in FN706 awaiting adoption. The Major Change is that the Outreach Team, will attempt to place the Widow in a Lodge that is in close proximity to her, Geographically speaking, with the aim of being able to develop the social side. This Scheme will work with the help of the other Provincial Grand Almoners.
